TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint Disorders)

Temporomandibular disorder is a condition affecting the movement of the jaw. While not usually a serious condition, it can cause knock on effects that individuals may find disconcerting, uncomfortable or chronically painful.

These include;

  • Pain around jaw, ears or temples
  • Clicking, popping or grinding when you open your jaw
  • Jaw locking
  • Headaches
  • Difficulty opening your mouth

Thankfully, with the revolutionary new treatment from the Town Hall Aesthetic Centre, there is a simple and effective cure.

PRGF (Plasma Rich in Growth Factors) is the most advanced autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma system. It is based on the activation of the patient’s own platelets for the stimulation and acceleration of tissue healing and regeneration.

While TMJ can be caused by a blow to the head or an uneven bite, the most common cause is wear and tear of the joints in the jaw. Thankfully, PRGF treatment stimulates the proliferation of the tendon cells and increases the synthesis of key molecules such as VEGF and HGF. In clinical trials this has shown to significantly reduce symptoms and pain in patients.

How Does It Work?

Should you choose to go ahead with your treatment, after a consultation with one of our treatment care coordinators, the process is incredibly simple, and can all be done in a couple of hours.

On the day of your treatment, one of our clinicians will take some of your blood and place it in a centrifuge. This machine extracts the plasma rich in platelets, which is then injected back in to target area, the jaw, on the same day.

Upon injection, the plasma releases the growth factors, stimulating the growth of stem cells which facilitate the fast repair of the joints in the jaw.

Post Treatment

Once the injection is completed, no further treatment is required. Numerous clinical trials have been conducted on the effects of PRGF treatment for those with clicking jaws, with remarkable effects.

If you are suffering from chronic jaw pain because of TMJ, you should feel the pain subside in a brief time. This will also reduce clicking and the chance of your jaw locking.
